Dyslexia assessments, tuition and Maths support in the Portishead, Bristol and North Somerset area.
Tuition
The specialist one-to-one tuition I provide is tailored to the child’s unique needs and makes use of multi-sensory teaching techniques and games to engage the learner and help create a variety of memory traces to aide recall of their learning.

Tutoring sessions can take place at your home, at your child's school or in my home.
Specialist dyslexia tuition
The lessons are structured and cumulative, often incorporating metacognitive activities to help the child understand learning methods that work best for them.

The initial session involves some assessment activities to enable me to plan appropriately.

Lessons include some or all of the following activites:

-
Sequencing activities
-
Memory training
-
Revision of previous learning
-
Introduction of new learning (phonics, spelling pattern or sight word)
-
Reading
-
Writing
-
Spelling
-
Handwriting
Five minutes feedback at the end of each session is given and homework is provided.
Overlearning is often required for dyslexic learners to embed new learning so it is important to complete the homework tasks in order to revisit their learning. Homework is often a quick game, so could be played several times over the week.

Primary Maths Tuition
I have experience teaching the full primary age range and regularly do supply at a local school so am up-to-date with current teaching in Maths.

Tuition is tailored to the needs of the learner. Initially, some assessment activities will be done to enable planning of sessions, alongside discussion with the learner, parent and any reports from school.

Lessons will usually start with a maths game and revision of the previous week’s learning. Further practice of this will be done if required, before moving on to new learning. Where appropriate, we use physical resources, draw representations or our calculations and use more formal written methods.

Homework, to review the lessons learning focus, is provided each week and five minutes feedback given to parents at the end of each lesson.
